What Are Invisible Hearing Aids?
Invisible and custom hearing aids sit inside the ear canal rather than behind the ear - making them virtually undetectable when worn. They are custom-moulded to the exact shape of your ear canal, ensuring a precise and comfortable fit. Modern invisible aids now offer features that were previously only available in larger devices, including Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable batteries and AI-powered sound processing.
CIC
Completely-in-Canal
Sits entirely within the ear canal. Nearly invisible from the outside. Custom-moulded for a precise fit. Suitable for mild to moderately severe hearing loss.
IIC
Invisible-in-Canal
The smallest and most discreet hearing aid available. Sits deep within the ear canal and is completely invisible from the outside. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
NXT In-the-Ear
Oticon Zeal Platform
Launched in 2026 by Oticon. Bridges the gap between CIC and RIC - offering near-invisible sizing with full Bluetooth, rechargeability and AI processing previously only available in behind-the-ear aids.
Are Invisible Hearing Aids Right for You?
Invisible and custom hearing aids are an excellent option for many patients - but not everyone. Suitability depends on the type of your hearing loss (not just the severity), the shape and size of your ear canal, and your lifestyle needs. The only way to know for certain is a full hearing assessment. We will always give you an honest recommendation.

Common Questions About Invisible Hearing Aids
Are invisible hearing aids completely undetectable?
IIC aids sit deep within the ear canal and are invisible to observers. CIC aids are nearly invisible - only a small removal cord may be visible on close inspection.
How long do custom hearing aids take to make?
Custom-moulded aids typically take up to 2 weeks from impression to fitting. The Oticon Zeal can be trialled immediately using demo pairs on the day of your consultation.
Do you take ear impressions at the clinic?
Yes - ear impressions are taken in-house at both our Bolton and Rossendale clinics. The process is safe, comfortable and takes around 15 minutes.
Can I have invisible hearing aids if I have severe hearing loss?
Custom in-canal aids are generally suitable for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. For severe or profound hearing loss, a larger device is usually more appropriate. We will advise you honestly at your assessment.
What is the difference between CIC and IIC?
CIC (Completely-in-Canal) aids sit within the canal and are nearly invisible. IIC (Invisible-in-Canal) aids sit deeper still and are completely hidden. IIC aids are the smallest available and require a suitable ear canal size.
Do invisible hearing aids have Bluetooth?
The Oticon Zeal includes Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast - the first invisible-style aid to offer this. Traditional CIC and IIC aids typically do not include Bluetooth, though some models in the Phonak Virto Infinio range do.
Are invisible hearing aids rechargeable?
The Oticon Zeal is rechargeable with a 20-hour battery life. Traditional CIC and IIC aids use small disposable batteries (size 10 or 312), though the Phonak Virto R Infinio also offers a rechargeable option.
What is the Oticon Zeal and how is it different?
The Oticon Zeal is a 2026 launch from Oticon - an in-ear aid built on the same AI platform as the Oticon Intent. It offers second-generation DNN AI, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast and 20-hour rechargeability in a near-invisible form factor. It is the most advanced invisible hearing aid available.
Can I try invisible hearing aids before committing?
Yes - we keep demo pairs of the Oticon Zeal in clinic at both our Bolton and Rossendale clinics. Book a free consultation and you can trial them on the same day with no obligation to purchase.
Does the price include the ear impression appointment?
Yes - all our hearing aid prices include in-house ear impressions, professional fitting with Real Ear Measurement, 2 years aftercare and 5-year manufacturer warranty. There are no hidden costs.
